□ Since Montpellier made public transport free in 2023, passenger numbers have gone up, walking and cycling increased and car use decreased.
□ More than 120 municipalities in Brazil have free public transport, also in Luxembourg, Kriviy Rih (Ukraine), Belgrade (Serbia), Tallinn (Estonia), Porto (Portugal), Frederica (Denmark- buses free). It works. It’s good for people, good for social justice and good for climate policy.
□ Fare Free London challenge to Sadiq Khan- Mayor acknowledges that lower fares increase public transport use, make for a better summer, and boost the economy.
OK then. What progress on the publicly-owned bus company, which you committed to in 2024? Establish a commission to review all fares and detailed consideration of pros and cons of free public transport?
