Does our preoccupation in CI with ‘being light’ run the risk of mirroring harmful cultural norms like preferring lighter moods & lighter body types?I’m not sure! But I do know that the contact dances I find most satisfying are the ones with the most shared weight - the heavy ones…
Of course I don’t want to crush my partner or be oppressed by their weight, but perhaps through sophisticating our experience of weight we can have more fulfilling, more honest, and more exciting dances!
We’ll work with physiological states and specific physical techniques to explore weight on continuums like:
Decided ~ Questioning
Dependant ~ Agile
Rigid ~ Released
Sudden ~ Sequential
Linear ~ Centrifugal
Focused ~ Diffuse
Fixed ~ Adaptive
Collapsed ~ Activated
Transparent ~ Opaque
