Who was Frida Kahlo beyond the flowers, the eyebrows and the iconic self-portraits?
This creative workshop invites you to discover Frida through a different lens—one that explores identity, resilience, symbolism and Mexican culture while creating your own artwork in a welcoming and inspiring environment.
Rather than recreating Frida's paintings, we'll use her life and artistic practice as a starting point for exploring our own stories.
Throughout the evening, you'll enjoy traditional Mexican cacao, discover the cultural roots of cacao in Mexico, and create a symbolic self-portrait collage using mixed media.
No artistic experience is necessary.
This workshop is about expression, curiosity and meaningful conversation—not perfection.

Everything you'll need for the creative session will be provided.
If you'd like to incorporate something personal into your collage (a printed photograph, magazine clipping, small note or meaningful image), you're welcome to bring it along.

Meet your host
Diego Lugo is the founder of Frido Education, a cultural project exploring the relationship between Mexican cacao, storytelling, astrology and community.
Over the past decade, Diego has facilitated workshops and educational experiences across Australia, Mexico and the UK, bringing together Indigenous knowledge, contemporary reflection and creative practice.
