About this Event
Starting from Ravenscourt Park, the walk explores the artistic and activist past of Hammersmith Riverside.
The riverside was home to many radicals who challenged the exploitation of the working classes and women in the nineteenth and early twentieth century through art, design and political activism. You'll see where William Morris resided during the last years of his life and where other creative men and women associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement lived and worked. You'll also hear about the activities of one of the UK's earliest socialist parties.
You'll explore sites associated with the private press movement. This effort to revive traditional printing and bookbinding techniques started here in Hammersmith and spread across the world.
The walk will end at Hammersmith Bridge, about 11 minutes walk away from Hammersmith underground station.
