About this Event

Part of Theatreship's guest event series - where contemporary artists take over the ship to highlight the stories they want to tell. Here's some more info from them:

Human Interference Task Force's upcoming album is a Christian Rock album.

Nah, it isn't really, but I’ve been saying that because it’s funny (and a tiny bit true).

The ideas in the first album, “A More Meaningful Life (Than One That Acknowledges Reality)” crystallised around QAnon; it was about conspiracy theories and misplaced faith, about the horror and beauty in the stories that these strains of human consciousness created and the ways that they rhymed with but never quite sounded exactly like reality.

The ideas on this next album came from looking back on the writing and research process for the first one and recognising within myself a gradually increasing amount of sympathy, admiration and possible envy for the subjects I was looking at. I started by looking at QAnon with very narrowed eyes, and uh I guess basically my eyes got wider lmao.

Sincerity, imagination, collective creativity, absolutely unhinged faith, pattern recognition, and the connection of all of these things with political action; QAnon had all of that. And it turns out that these things might be really cool and might indeed by the very things we need to shake us out of this G** d*** f***ing doom loop that we’re all in.

So yeah “I Don’t Wanna Die In Hell” is a Christian Rock album and there are still guitars but some of them are acoustic this time and now there are some synths and I’m singing a lot. - Sean

The songs on ‘Fables’ are all odes, in one way or another, to the imaginary world I lived in as a child, seamlessly layered onto my everyday reality. It was the core of who I was, and as I got older I feared leaving it. I used to wake my mum up in the middle of the night, crying, heartbroken at the thought of forgetting all of my characters and stories. I can’t live with one foot in another world any more (it would make operating as an adult very difficult if I still had to take sixteen imaginary dogs and ten dragons with me everywhere I went). But I do find doorways back - through making music and art, in folklore and tales of monsters and transformations, in the turning of the seasons, the timeless soft hush of rain, the wild energy of stormy skies. Most of all, I find magic in the intricate patterns of my relationships with other people. This album features many of my closest friends and collaborators, who took my little spells and breathed life into them. I hope it can offer others a doorway too. - Georgia

The venue opens at 2pm for drinks in the bar. Everyone is welcome to come early and enjoy the space, and we recommend arriving for the event at 6:30pm at the latest to settle in, grab a drink, and get your seats.

Theatreship is committed to broadening access to the arts - we know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. If the regular ticket price is beyond what you feel able to afford for whatever reason, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected] and we will do everything we can to help, no questions asked. We also offer arts supporter tickets, for those that can, to pay a higher price to support the venue, the artists who perform here and subsidised tickets for others.

Due to the historic nature of the ship, we’re sorry to say there is not currently step-free access into the theatre space. We have dedicated staff on hand to help with stairs, and an onsite wheelchair once you’re inside the venue. If you have any access needs, please do e-mail us at [email protected].
