About this Event
Grain explores the beauty, history, and ecological relationships between people and sand through original choreography and sound score. First, you’ll experience Nancy Cohen and Anna Boothe’s sculptures and installations made primarily from recycled and/or repurposed glass. Their work explores the multicentury conflux between the glass industry, the scientific glass industry and the river ecosystems of Southern NJ. Then, a performance by Meagan Woods, Shawn Brush, Paul Pinto and Joe Bergen will be set within the installation and include clear sculptural costumes filled with colored sand. As the dancers and musicians move, you can see and hear these sonic sand instruments, acting almost like large scale rain sticks. Both Confluence and Grain examine the history and precarious future of sand, the influence of water on sandscapes, and collaborations amongst artists. These themes will be explored in an open conversation that invites the audience to share their own questions and reflections around these topics. Afterwards, all are welcome to linger over refreshments to continue enjoying the installation.
