Join Our Family Constellations Workshop on Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving is often a time when we reconnect with family and appreciate what we have. If you’d like to be more grateful for your life and the people in it than you currently are, this Thanksgiving-weekend workshop may be for you.

This one-day Family Constellation workshop aims to help participants explore the transgenerational dynamics that may influence their relationships, emotional well-being, and life choices. Participants will have the opportunity to gain a system-oriented perspective on their longstanding personal or family issues in a respectful and supportive small-group (maximum 10 participants) environment.

While not every participant will set up their own constellation, everyone takes part in the process, and many people find that observing and participating in others' constellations can be equally meaningful and insightful. This workshop will start with an introduction to the theory and practice of family constellations, so no previous experience is required.

About Barna Konkoly-Thege, Ph.D., C.Psych., Clinical Psychologist

Barna is a clinical psychologist and researcher with 20 years of experience in the mainstream mental health field. His curiosity has always extended beyond the boundaries of conventional psychology, and he first encountered family constellations in 2005. He became fascinated by the different perspective it offered on relationships, family patterns, and the ways our personal histories influence our lives, including our mental health. Since then, he has completed extensive training in family constellations in Canada and Europe, and the approach has become an important part of his own personal and professional life, including conducting his own formal academic research.

In facilitating constellation work, he brings together these two sides: his clinical and professional background as a psychologist, and an openness to experiences and ways of understanding that do not always fit neatly within conventional psychological frameworks. His intention is to offer a broader perspective on what may contribute to our challenges and what may help us move through them, while creating a respectful, safe, and warm space in which people can venture beyond their comfort zone.

About Family Constellations

Family constellations are experiential group interventions intended to promote self-reflection and personal insight. Although some research suggests that participation may be associated with improvements in mental health and well-being (e.g., https://doi.org/10.1111/famp.12636), family constellations are not an evidence-based treatment for any specific mental or physical health condition. Participation in this workshop therefore is not a substitute for psychotherapy or any other professional health service.

If you have concerns about your physical or mental health, or are currently receiving treatment for a medical or psychological condition, you are encouraged to consult your treating healthcare provider before participating. You should not disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking treatment because of anything experienced or discussed during this workshop.

Potential risks

As with many forms of personal development and psychotherapy, participation may evoke uncomfortable emotions or unexpected psychological reactions. Some participants may temporarily experience sadness, anxiety, anger, or other forms of emotional distress; fatigue or other forms of physical discomfort, or increased awareness of interpersonal difficulties. Changes in your attitudes or behaviour resulting from the workshop may also influence relationships with family members or others.
