About this Event
How might linking forestry, design and participatory making with local timber cultivate more meaningful relationships between people and urban woodland ecologies?
Drawing on insights from the FORESTED research project, this talk explores how free digital tree-scanning tools, timber education and simple participatory bench-making can reconnect communities with overlooked timber resources in London.
Challenging conventional separations between conservation, forestry, design, making and learning, the project demonstrates how hands-on engagement across the urban timber supply chain can cultivate ecological citizenship and support woodland enterprise.
Through collaboration between London Metropolitan University, the Royal Danish Academy, and Lesnes Abbey Woods, FORESTED presents an alternative model for engaging with urban woodlands, placing participation, stewardship and experiential making at the centre of regenerative timber design practices.
The talk concludes by presenting a repeatable model of digitally informed bioregional craft that supports resilient timber futures rooted in place, participation and care.
