About this Event

Whether you are a complete beginner or you've done a bit before and want to build your skills and confidence, this course (with just 12 participants) takes you from first read-through to performing two scenes, one comedy and one drama, in front of an invited audience.

You'll have a script in your hand within the first hour of day one. From then on, you're working on your scenes every session: no endless theory, no waiting around.

Each week you'll learn a technique used by professional actors and put it straight into your scripts, layer by layer, until both scenes are ready for an audience.

The showcase will be attended by a professional agent or casting director, and every performer will receive personal written feedback.

All classes and the showcase take place in the The Cavendish Arms' beautiful theatre room.

The course is led by Madeleine MacMahon, an actor and director with over 15 years’ experience.

On screen: EastEnders and Doctors (BBC) and The Freedoms (Amazon). She won Best Supporting Actress at the British Independent Film Festival for Blindfold and received multiple acting nominations for This Little Girl (BFI).

On stage: Breathless (Soho Theatre, transferring to New York), a New York Times Critic's Pick that earned her a 2024 Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Solo Performance. Other stage work includes A Super Happy Story - About Feeling Super Sad (Hull Truck) Great Expectations and Cider With Rosie (Cheltenham).

She's supported by our teaching team of working theatre professionals, including Jess Daniels, a theatre director nominated for Best Director at the UK Theatre Awards, whose credits include 2:22 A Ghost Story (Associate Director) and Girl From The North Country (Resident Director, Old Vic and West End).

Our teachers are working professionals so occasionally a session may be led by a different member of the teaching team.
