ABOUT THE ORCHESTRA
The Newark City Schools Orchestra programme has been a proud musical tradition of the city and school district since it was founded by Donald Montgomery in 1967. Over the past 60 years, it has provided generations of students with the opportunity to learn, perform and develop their musical skills.
Today, the touring orchestra is made up of students aged 14–18, while at home in Ohio, students can begin their musical studies as young as 10.
The NCS Orchestra enjoys performing and has had the opportunity to play in some exciting locations, including Disney World’s Disney Springs and the Chicago Field Museum. The orchestra has also performed at Carnegie Hall, where it was awarded 2nd place in the American Cup, a national contest of high school string orchestra programmes.
The orchestra programme will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2027, and this English tour is kicking off the celebrations.
