Four Decades of Vietnam’s Economic Transformations: Growth, Reforms, Resilience, and the Next Development Frontier
About this Event

Following the Đổi Mới (Renewal) policy in 1986, Vietnam has moved from chronic shortages and isolation to become one of the world’s most dynamic emerging economies. Yet the real question is not how Vietnam achieved decades of rapid growth, but whether its development model can succeed in a far more uncertain world.

This talk examines the reforms, institutions, and strategic choices that powered Vietnam’s transformation, from agricultural liberalization and global integration to manufacturing expansion and poverty reduction. It then explores the country’s new reform agenda, including digital transformation, infrastructure modernization, green transition, and innovation. Can Vietnam avoid the middle-income trap and become a high-income economy by 2045, or will new challenges reshape its trajectory?
