Starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, Fjord (loosely based on a true story) tells the tale of a conservative Pentecostal couple, Mihai and Lisbet, who relocate from Romania to Lisbet’s home country of Norway after Mihai’s parents die. Settling down in a coastal village to be close to Lisbet’s family, they are subject to investigation after their daughter is seen at school with bruises, and struggle under the scrutiny of the local judicial system. A thought-provoking and complex exploration of cultural differences and the role of a community’s values, Fjord refuses to provide a simple answer to difficult questions, instead allowing the viewer to feel the emotional weight bearing on all parties — particularly the children at the center of the conflict.
