Judge Chapman has over forty years of practice experience in those spaces, including twelve years as a bankruptcy judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York and her current capacity as Senior Counsel in the Restructuring Department and Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. During her tenure on the court, Judge Chapman presided over come of the largest and most prominent corporate bankruptcy cases in American history, including Lehman Brothers Holdings, Grupo Aeromexico, Sabine Oil & Gas, and Nine West. She also has extensive experience mediating complex disputes in bankruptcy proceedings, including those in Purdue Pharma, FTX Trading, Ltd., Sears Holding Corp., and Rite Aid Corp. Judge Chapman will discuss her practice leading up to her appointment to the court, her experience on the bench with mediation, and her role as a mediator in corporate bankruptcy disputes.
Josh Sussberg ‘03 is a Partner in Kirkland & Ellis LLP’s restructuring group and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He has been described as “the nation’s leading restructuring lawyer” and is consistently recognized as one of the country’s preeminent restructuring and liability management attorneys. Though he represents various stakeholders in restructuring and corporate distress situations, Josh has represented storied companies such as Claire’s, JOANN, Equinox, Rite Aid, Bed Bath & Beyond, David’s Bridal, WeWork, Celsius Network, and Toys “R” Us. His work has earned him numerous industry awards, including the 2025 “Advocate of the Year” from Global Restructuring Review, “Dealmaker of the Year” from The American Lawyer, and one of the “Top 200 Lawyers in America” by Forbes. He earned his B.S., magna cum laude, from Syracuse University in 2000, and his J.D., cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he was also inducted into the Order of the Coif.
