About this Event
In Southeast Atlanta, the ruins of the former city Pr*son farm embody immense potential. The site has a long and tumultuous history including colonization, slavery, convict labor, and protest movements. In the last decade, momentum has surged for the creation of a public green space that would address the site's history and connect Atlantans to the watershed of the South River. In 2025, the Department of Parks and Recreation teamed up with local researchers and designers to study the land's history, engage with the community, and develop a master plan. The result is a vision to transform over 100 acres of the former farm into a unique public green space, restoring the site through historic memorialization and ecological preservation. Join us to see the concept and celebrate this milestone.
The event will feature a presentation of the master plan's highlights, and the opportunity to meet the design team, ask questions, and review the full report. The event is free for anyone to attend and all are welcome. Restrooms and water are available, as well as ADA accommodations.
Paid parking, including ADA spaces, are available in the parking lot immediately adjacent to the Oakland Visitor Center. Limited street parking is also available on surrounding roadways.
The Visitor Center is also easily accessible by train, a quater mile walk from MARTA's King Memorial Station. MARTA bus routes 10 and 7 also stop at this station, and route 22 can be reached on Memorial Drive.
