Watch Wood Street, a documentary following a year in the life of Oakland’s largest unhoused encampment as residents face an eviction that threatens to dismantle their community. As eviction notices appear and police move in, residents organize, build barricades, file lawsuits and protest at City Hall. Filmed in a cinéma vérité style, Wood Street centers on John and LaMonté as mounting pressure tests their friendship while they navigate sobriety, mental health and the struggle to remain in their community.
Following the screening, a moderated discussion will explore the making of the film, the Wood Street community and broader issues of housing, displacement and homelessness in the Bay Area.
