About this Event
Tickets for this event are now SOLD OUT but there will be an opportunity to join a rush line at the theatre the day of the event. Ticket holder seating will be guaranteed until 1 pm. After that, any unclaimed tickets will be released to the rush line on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend arriving early as admission from the rush line is not guaranteed.
A poor but feisty Chinese girl, disguised as a boy, joins the railroad crew in the Rocky Mountains to search for her long-lost father, and falls in love with the son of the railroad tycoon.
IRON ROAD stars Oscar-winner Peter O’Toole [Lawrence of Arabia, My Favourite Year, Troy,] and Australian Sam Neill [Jurassic Park, The Piano, Peaky Blinders] as the railroad tycoon, in his only Canadian film, plus Chinese super-star Sun Li [her only film in English] and Canadian heart-throb Luke Macfarlane [Brothers and Sisters, plus many Hallmark romances].
Rave reviews around the world:
- “Massive and magnificent“ [Globe & Mail]
- “A gutsy, brainy heroine and a non-clichéd ending” [Top Reviewer, U.S.A.]
- “Dramatizes humanity's tenacity and innovation” [Georgia Straight, Vancouver]
- “The ending transforms a good story into a wonderful one” [Far East Cinema].
IRON ROAD has won top awards: People’s Choice, Best Actress, Best Direction at the Rome Festival, Dominican Republic & Whistler Festivals, plus the Canadian Screen Award.
Producer Anne Tait, a long-time Alumnae Theatre member, now brings IRON ROAD to the Alumnae Theatre, with great behind-the-scenes stories.
