About this Event
The exhibition takes Booth’s maps as a starting point to explore the historical roots of issues around housing and poverty in London.
Photography and imagery capture London’s thriving street life, the workhouse and the reality of poverty in the Victorian period. Pamphlets, newsletters and grassroots publications explore wartime and postwar redevelopment, the building of estates and changing housing policy, as well as eviction and squatting.
The tour will inspire you to reflect on the huge changes that have taken place in the capital, and the many challenges that remain for its residents.
highlights unique holdings from Senate House Library’s and LSE Library’s collections. The works reveal diverse stories, from the collective to the local and personal, spanning 200 years of continuity and change in London housing history.
The meeting point for this event is the Membership Hall on the 4th floor of Senate House Library.
