About this Event
Join us for the first workshop in the Everyday AI: From Curious to Confident series, an engaging learning journey designed to help residents of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities understand, explore, and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) safely and responsibly.
In this session, participants will discover what AI can and cannot do, learn the fundamentals of plain-language prompting, and practise using AI tools without sharing personal information. Through guided activities and real-world examples such as asking AI to explain composting or public transport planning in plain English participants will build confidence in interacting with AI while developing critical thinking skills about its strengths, limitations, and responsible use
This workshop is practical, supportive, and designed for everyone. Participants will learn how to:
- Understand AI in plain English and how it works in everyday tasks.
- Identify what AI can and cannot do well by learning to mark facts for checking and verifying claims independently.
- Create effective prompts to get useful results without needing technical jargon.
- Protect personal information by using only public or fictional practice data when using AI systems.
- Apply safe and responsible AI practices using a human review checklist before acting on any AI response
Learning Outcome
By the end of this session, you will be able to understand AI in plain English and try one safe practice prompt with confidence. You will leave with a completed AI Confidence Card your personal record of what you tried and what you would check before real use
