Teaches evaluating heat stress in workplaces using WBGT and thermal indicators, and how to deploy instruments and interpret heat data.
About this Event

Course Overview

This course is designed as a concise and practical introduction to evaluating hot environments and heat stress. Participants will explore basic concepts of thermal strain, measurement parameters (air temperature, humidity, radiant heat, air movement), and the application of Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) in accordance with ISO 7243. The course includes hands-on demonstrations of key instruments such as globe thermometers and WBGT meters, helping learners understand how to gather and interpret heat stress data relevant to common workplace scenarios.

Course Learning Outcome

This course introduces WSH professionals to the fundamentals of evaluating heat stress in the workplace. It focuses on the application of the WBGT index and other thermal stress indicators, alongside basic field deployment of heat sensing instruments. Participants will gain practical insights into using monitoring tools and interpreting heat-related data to support safety decisions in hot environments.

Objectives
  • Explain the basic physiological impact of heat stress on workers
  • Identify key environmental factors that contribute to thermal load
  • Use WBGT meters and similar instruments to measure heat exposure
  • Understand how to interpret WBGT values in relation to work-rest cycles and clothing adjustment factors
  • Support the implementation of basic heat hazard mitigation strategies at the workplace
