About this Event

Bring the Forest to Life: Family Puppet Banner Workshop

In this hands-on workshop, led by master puppeteer Theresa Linnihan, transform giant 6-foot tree banners into glowing, magical artwork for Park Slope’s biggest autumn celebration! Families will design and build vibrant, light-up tree banners designed to be carried in the Park Slope Civic Council Children’s Halloween Parade on October 31. Together, our enchanted forest will illuminate the parade route!

Workshop Details & Important Info

The Project: Construct and decorate one 6-foot magical tree banner equipped with battery-operated lights, turning simple materials into a towering, illuminated puppet. The banners will be very light weight and easy to carry in the Halloween Parade.

Registration Policy: Each registration covers the materials and instruction for one banner. If you have multiple children and would like each child to build and carry their own tree, please submit a separate registration for each banner.

Who It’s For: Perfect for families, kids 6+, and crafters of all ages. Younger children will need an adult partner to help assemble and handle the 6-foot frame. The "building" includes a printing process so old clothes that won't mind the rare paint accident are advised. The other structural component is simply taping the banner to a pole that carries the banner upright.

No prior crafting experience is necessary—we provide all the frames, lighting elements, textiles, and decorating supplies. Space is limited to ensure everyone gets hands-on guidance, so reserve your spot early to light up the neighborhood this Halloween!
