About this Event
'Listening to the Earth: Textures, Grains, and Bodily Landscapes'
What happens when drawing becomes less about observation, and more about attention? Inspired by the Drawing Room exhibition Listening to the Earth, this session explores mark making through texture, material, memory, and the physical relationship between body and ground.
Rather than focusing only on the figure, participants are invited to think about weight, surface, erosion, repetition, and traces left behind.
This session approaches drawing as a way of listening. Through a series of short and extended poses, participants will respond not only to the body, but also to natural materials, earthy tones, fragmented imagery, and tactile prompts inspired by landscapes, dust, stone, soil, and organic forms. Marks may become soft, unstable, layered, or worn away. Drawings may feel collected rather than constructed.
Using charcoal, graphite, textured paper, and mixed materials, the session encourages a slower and more sensory approach to life drawing. It is less about precision and more about noticing, responding, and allowing materials to behave naturally. Participants are welcome to experiment freely and interpret the theme in their own way.
