About The Barshop Institute and VITAL-H
The mission of The Barshop Institute is to understand the basic biology of aging and to discover therapies that treat and cure age-related diseases. This is achieved by fostering dynamic, collaborative research; educating and training future scientists and clinicians; and promoting public awareness of age-related issues.
The purpose of the VITAL-H study is exploring new therapies to help people maintain their health and independence as they age. Researchers are studying two medications already approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – Dapagliflozin-Farxiga and Semaglutide-Wegovy – to learn whether they may help slow age-related declines in physical function in generally healthy older adults.
