Teacher education, cultural governance, and ways of ‘doing policy’
About this Event

Beginning with a reflection on ‘The New Political Economy of Teacher Education’ (Ellis, Gatti & Mansell, 2024), this seminar will report on current research on teacher education reform in the Gulf States, England, and Finland. By examining the different ways of ‘doing policy’, the critical role of teacher education reform in the governance of culture will be explored.

Professor Viv Ellis is a senior academic leader in education, and an Honorary Professor at the UCL Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research. He has held major professorial and executive leadership roles, including Dean and Professor of Education at Monash University; Professor of Educational Leadership and Teacher Development at King’s College London; founding Head of the newly re-formed Department of Education at Brunel University London; and University Lecturer and Fellow in Educational Studies at the University of Oxford. His academic work focuses on teacher development, educational reform, professional learning, cultural-historical theory, and the political economy of education.
