Día de los Muertos is a predominantly Mexican holiday for the remembrance of deceased family and friends, as well as a celebration of life for the living. It is a tradition with roots that reach back up to 3,000 years to Pre-Columbian times. Forged through the fusion of indigenous practices with Spanish culture at contact in 1519, it has evolved in the over 500 years since into the Día de los Muertos that we know today. As a language immersion school, we firmly believe that language is acquired best in its cultural context.
Monarca Elementary's SIPAT is proud to organize and implement this very special cultural tradition for Monarca students, families, and the broader community.
