SongRise Improv Choir is for people who love to sing and want to connect with a community of warm-hearted vocal explorers! There are no songs –– ever-evolving vocal music is invented in the moment and your voice is the instrument.
Laurel Murphy is your guide, leading the group in vocal warmups and explorations, then composing spontaneous grooves, rhythms and harmonies to sing. Standing in a circle, we step in time, tuning in as layered vocal patterns and rhythms rise and fall. Musical influences can range from jazz to blues to world music depending on the mood.
Inspired by the work of Bobby McFerrin, circle singing doesn't require choral or improv experience. If you can sing in tune and bring a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm, you'll sharpen your ears, deepen your listening and be amazed at the music that emerges out of thin air.
