About this Event

Diwali is one of the biggest holidays of the year for us, and this year we’d love to celebrate it with you, our community! 🪔

What’s Diwali?
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by millions of people around the world. It celebrates light winning over darkness, good over evil, and new beginnings. People light lamps, decorate their homes, dress up, share sweets with friends and neighbours, and spend time together. Think of it as a mix of the warmth of Thanksgiving, the sparkle of the holidays and the fresh start of New Year’s.

On Diwali night, families perform Laxmi Puja, a short prayer to welcome Laxmi, the goddess of prosperity and good fortune, so the year ahead is bright and abundant. We’ll be doing our own Laxmi Puja right here at the cafe, and you’re welcome to watch, join in, or just soak up the festive atmosphere. No experience or background is needed!

What’s happening:
🪔 Lighting of the lamps: we’ll light up the whole cafe with diyas (small clay lamps) as evening falls
🙏 Laxmi Puja: a short, welcoming ceremony. We’ll explain what’s happening as we go!
🍬 Sweets to share: in Diwali tradition, everyone gets a taste of festive sweets
📸 Festive photo corner: come dressed up and take some photos!
