About this Event
Join us for a hands-on, 2.5 hour introduction to urban wildlife - from the hidden world of lichens to the trees above us and the invertebrates at our feet. We’ll start indoors at the Natural History Museum Nature Activity Centre with a friendly, practical intro to spotting urban nature and using simple ID tools.
Weather permitting, we will then we’ll head out to the museum gardens to observe and record what we find:
- Urban lichens – learn the main lichen forms and where they thrive in the city
- Urban trees – winter tree ID
- Urban invertebrates – learn some of the key invert groups
We’ll return for a final lab session back indoors, where you’ll get time at the microscopes to look closely at what we’ve found (and sharpen your ID skills with reference guides). You’ll also have the option to share your favourite find with the Urban Nature Network community.
Download the iRecord app before the day, this will help you to record what you see.
