Vermont-based singer-songwriter, Dana Robinson, returns to the UK for the first time in six years to celebrate the launch of his new album, The Sound of the Word. The songwriter, guitarist and fiddler has been a fixture of the folk scene in the US and UK since the early 2000s. His 14th album in 3 decades, Dana's new release The Sound of the Word is part thought-provoking observation at the state of the world and part meditation on rural life.
Dana’s songwriting tells stories that delve deep into rural life with wonder, humour and connection with community. Dana’s lyrics capture places in time with uncanny detail, to reflect truths and connection with the forces that shape our lives.
Dana’s guitar playing incorporates elements of old-time flat picking and country blues which he combines to create a rhythmic style uniquely his own. Dana’s fiddle playing is influenced by the driving and rhythmic Round Peak-style from North Carolina and the melodic and melancholic repertoire of West Virginia.
In a time when AI is on the ascent, Dana’s music remains firmly rooted in humanity, in the ways of nature, and in universal truths. Dana’s performances embody a vitality and excitement, which serves to reconnect the audience with the mundane and beautiful things that nourish and bring us joy.
Seven Days writes, “Dana is a master storyteller, spinning his yarns with the precise skill of an artisan loom weaver.”
“Rural America explored with elegant simplicity. Their music and cleanly poetic songwriting bring to mind the great folksingers of our times.” Asheville Citizen-Times
“It’s just the kind of music-making and song-making that keeps the past alive in the present.” Songlines
“A poet's perspective delivered in quietly spectacular musicianship ...the music sounds laid back even while his guitar licks are knocking your socks off.” Music Matters Review
