Note: This night includes three floors for one price. Advancing our exploration of new technologies and artistic possibilities in club music, our Spatial Radiants night brings cutting-edge spatial audio to the monumental Berghain sound system to unlock new levels of depth and expression, in collaboration with Futures of Listening and Ambrio.
On the main floor, Cinna Peyghamy is a delver into the affinities of sound. At the centre of the French-Iranian composer’s practice squats the Persian tombak drum; entwined with and perpetually transformed by its presence hums an elaborate constellation of oscillators, resonators, control voltages, and signal pathways through which each strike may acquire an unforeseen afterlife.
Showcasing her new album Ruin: It’s Not Just Music in a special multi-channel spatial format, the harmonic expanses and intricate melodic ecologies of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s earlier work remain, but beneath them now breakbeats and drum-and-bass patterns splinter through a dense strata of synthesis.
Yoinking from Durban gqom, São Paulo baile funk, Baltimore club and British bass, Zimbabwe-born producer State OFFF juggles their cavernous low frequencies and abrupt rhythmic dislocations, flipped to compel unfamiliar movement.
Nadia Struiwigh will play a hybrid live set. She carries in her a dancefloor eloquence built of subterranean techno and the protean vocabularies of jungle and drum and bass, peppered with the most exploratory of IDM.
In Panorama Bar, T.NO’s drumcentric sound is a hard-hitting force of percussion + concussion. His Surinamese roots carry his sets and productions, running gqom, grime, kawina, bubbling, kuduro, and funk carioca through the same restless groove.
DJ Strawberry’s productions possess a kinetic intelligence, combining Chicago footwork velocity with Japanese minimalism, bolstered by a microscopic attention to repetition and rhythmic displacement.
Holding within her a baroque intricacy, SHERELLE’s musical idiom is a whirling reverie of breakbeats, sub-bass detonations, serried percussion and highly precipitous syncopations. At tempos exceeding 160 BPM, her selections are possessed of the headlong momentum of a machine operating at the outermost limits of its ingenuity.
