About this Event
✍️ Discover the art of traditional Mexican Calaveritas Literarias!
✨ Join us for a fun and creative writing workshop led by Dr. Jane Lavery from the University of Southampton, exploring one of Mexico’s most distinctive literary traditions.
💀 Calaveritas Literarias are traditional Mexican poems composed of short, satirical and humorous verses, written as playful epitaphs for friends, family members or public figures. Through wit, imagination and a touch of dark humour, these poems imagine encounters with La Muerte (Death) and remind us to celebrate life.
🖋️ Whether you love poetry, Mexican culture or simply want to try something creative, this workshop is a wonderful opportunity to discover this unique literary tradition and explore the rich cultural significance of Día de Muertos.
📚 An opportunity for publication: As part of Dr. Lavery’s research project on the Day of the Dead, completed works may be considered for inclusion in a printed anthology by University of Southampton Press, scheduled for publication in 2027, subject to the authors’ consent.
