Turn your memories into journal pages, no art skills needed. Capture memories with writing, collage, and simple drawing.
Have you seen the instagram sketchbook artists and thought, " That's so cool, but I'm not good enough to draw realistic crows perched on top of castles? "
Just like there's no way to get good at public speaking without getting up on a stage, you've got to start messy and imperfect and it needs to be fun.
Join me for an hour of creative art journaling, made for Gen X women who’ve spent a long time taking care of everyone else. In this live online class, you’ll turn memories into pages using writing, collage and simple drawing.
You don’t need art skills, and wabi sabi is encouraged.
What you’ll do
- Follow music and sensory prompts that pull real memories to the surface
- Write short, true stories in the margins of a collaged page
Who it’s for
Gen X women who want a creative outlet that’s just for them, whether you’ve journaled for years or haven’t picked up a pen since high school.
What to have on hand
A notebook or a few sheets of paper, a pen or marker, a glue stick and scissors. Add anything you can cut up, like old magazines, junk mail, wrapping paper or kraft paper scraps. Colored pencils or paint are welcome if you’ve got them.
What You'll Leave With
- Your own art journal pages made with writing, collage, and simple drawing, no artistic experience required.
- A fresh way to revisit your memories through music, sensory prompts, and short, honest stories.
- Permission to make imperfect art. No pressure to produce something polished or Instagram-worthy.
- A creative practice you can continue at home using ordinary materials you probably already have.
Most of all, you'll have an hour set aside just for you: a chance to experiment, play, and make something that's yours.
Your host
I’m Karen, an artist with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MA from Naropa University. I teach journaling as a way to make something honest and a little wild, not perfect.
