Indigenous jewelry challenges colonial ideas of authenticity through evolving techniques and ancestral knowledge..
About this Event

The panel will examine colonial expectations that “traditional” and “authentic” Native American jewelry must be made exclusively by hand. Indigenous artists have long adapted new techniques, developed their own tools, and embraced unconventional materials while carrying forward Indigenous design languages and cultural knowledge. This conversation will explore that living, evolving practice, considering how ancestral knowledge and innovation inform contemporary jewelry.

Join Mahnaz Collection for an exhibition of our latest acquisitions of Native Indigenous jewelry. Featuring approximately one hundred pieces, the exhibition brings together historically significant jewelry and work by a new generation of artists, highlighting the breadth and continuing evolution of Native American jewelry.

Discover works by influential master jewelers alongside accessible contemporary designs that have drawn the attention of the press, designers, and collectors. Together, these pieces celebrate the exceptional artistry, innovation, and enduring significance of Indigenous adornment.
