About this Event
“There are an infinite number of points of possible intervention, moments where something positive happening can interrupt a downward trajectory and change the future. There are so many opportunities to get it right, even when things have gone terribly wrong. We are always capable of change.” —Nell Bernstein, Before Their Crimes: What We’re Misunderstanding About Childhood Trauma, Youth Crime, and the Path to Healing
Wherever you’re from and whatever role you serve, you have the ability to impact the lives of young people and help strengthen our community. Courting Change is an introductory, multidisciplinary evening reception for emerging leaders and early-to-mid-career professionals interested in Hamilton County’s juvenile justice landscape. Whether you’re hoping to expand your professional network, engage with others who care about the well-being of young people, or learn how to get involved, this event of offers a welcoming place to start. Over hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, connect with peers from across the region who share a commitment to helping kids and families thrive.
The evening will begin with brief remarks from Administrative Judge Kari Bloom and Magistrate Sarah Henry of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court, who will offer insight into our youth justice landscape and the challenges facing young people who come into contact with the system.
From there, guests will engage in conversation with practitioners, community leaders, and individuals with lived experience. Together, participants will explore the factors that influence youth outcomes, share perspectives, and consider how their own work, relationships, and expertise might help. As Nell Bernstein reminds us in the quote above, positive change begins with a single moment. This evening is an opportunity to explore where those moments exist in our community and how each of us can create them.
Rather than a formal conference or training, Courting Change is an opportunity to exchange ideas, ask questions, discover local resources, and build relationships with others who share a commitment to helping young people thrive.
Hosted by the Hamilton County Juvenile Court Advisory Council, Courting Change reflects the spirit of a diverse group of professionals united by a common purpose: creating more opportunities for young people to succeed before, during, and after involvement with the justice system.
Join colleagues from across the region as we:
- Hear perspectives from practitioners, community leaders, and individuals with lived experience
- Learn about local initiatives, resources, and emerging opportunities to support youth and families
- Build relationships across professions and sectors
- Explore ways to collaborate, innovate, and strengthen our collective impact
- Enjoy light refreshments, networking opportunities, and a cash bar
Whether you are new to these issues or have spent years working alongside young people and families, take a seat at the table on 10/29.
