About Cory Cross & The Burden
A Texas native, Cory Cross has spent more than a decade honing his country sound. He started out playing guitar in church and began writing songs after discovering songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and John Prine. Now he plays dance halls and dives across Texas, along with sold-out shows in Los Angeles and New York City.
Cory and his band bring together rough-and-rowdy energy and tender intimacy. Classic country instruments like steel guitar and fiddle meet fuzzy electric guitars and a thumping rhythm section, giving their honky tonk a garage-rock edge. The Burden’s musicians draw on wide-ranging, distinct influences to create a sound that feels both nostalgic and fresh.
The music
Cory’s debut full-length album, There’s More, features 14 songs shaped by years of paying dues and cutting teeth. It offers an honest look at the life of a working musician who has lived the words he writes. Cory Cross and The Burden have shared bills with Joshua Ray Walker, Summer Dean, and Jeremy Pinnel, and regularly play Texas venues including Austin’s Continental Club and the Stockyards in Fort Worth. They’re preparing for a West Coast tour and booking their first overseas tour.
