About this Event
In our recent survey, we heard from many of you about the importance of opportunities to recharge and prioritize your well-being. We listened, and we're excited to offer a special experience designed to help you slow down, release stress, and take a moment just for yourself.
To kick off American Education Week, we're inviting educators for a guided Sound Meditation experience in partnership with Andrea Taylor of Black Dog Healing Arts. This beginner-friendly event is open to K-12 educators of all abilities, and no prior meditation experience is needed.
Event Details
When: Sunday, November 15 from 3-4:30pm. Please plan to arrive a bit early so we can start promptly at 3.
Where: Corda Credit Union Business Center; 3015 Blairs Ferry Road NE in Cedar Rapids. (Please come to the Business Center entrance on the SW side of the building facing Aldi.)
What is Sound Meditation?
Sound meditation is a relaxation practice that uses sound, vibration and intention to help quiet the mind and encourage a sense of calm. Throughout the session, Andrea will use Himalayan singing bowls, crystal bowls, gongs, drums and other instruments to create a peaceful environment that encourages deep relaxation.
Sound meditation may help:
- Reduce feelings of stress and anxiety
- Promote better sleep and relaxation
- Improve mental clarity and focus
- Encourage creativity and emotional balance
- Create a sense of calm and renewal
What to Expect
This approximately 90-minute experience includes 60 minutes of sound meditation, with gentle guidance to help you settle into and transition out of the experience.
Here's what you can expect:
- Get comfortable: We'll begin by centering ourselves together before settling in for the meditation. You're welcome to lie on a mat with blankets and pillows or remain seated in a chair, whichever is most comfortable for you.
- Relax and unwind: As Andrea plays a variety of instruments, allow the sounds and vibrations to help you relax. Your mind may wander, or you might even fall asleep. That's perfectly okay! There's no right or wrong way to experience sound meditation. You're welcome to adjust your position as needed and simply enjoy the opportunity to rest.
- Ease back into your day: Andrea will gently guide everyone out of the meditation, allowing time to return to the present moment feeling refreshed and relaxed.
What to Bring
We want you to be as comfortable as possible during your experience! Consider bringing:
- A yoga mat, towel, or something comfortable to lie on
- A blanket, sweatshirt or extra layers, as you may feel cooler during deep relaxation
- A pillow for additional comfort
Important reminders:
- Please silence all phones and electronic devices during the session
- Smartwatches should be removed to help create a distraction-free environment
- No prior meditation experience is necessary
- Participants of all abilities are welcome, and seated participation is an option
