About this Event
This workshop has been made possible by LBHF Climate Action Fund.
Bring along your damaged clothing, or bags (no leather items), and learn from a seasoned and skilled teacher, how to fix them for yourself! At this practical workshop, La Modista will share their knowledge and guide participants through repair skills and techniques.
You'll have the opportunity to get hands-on, learn from experienced fixers and gain skills that you can use at home. You will be supported through the whole repair.
What you could learn:
- Threading needles
- basic hand sewing
- replacing buttons
- simple repairs, like fixing rips and tears
- visible mending;
- basic alterations, shortening trousers or sleeves
- garment care
- encouraging residents to repair and reuse clothing they already own.
- How repairing rather than replacing can help reduce waste
Please note:
- Maximum 2 pieces per participant
- We cannot guarantee a completed repair in a single session
- The item you bring must be clean
- No children under 12 children, 12-18 must be accompanied by an adult
- We cannot replace or repair zips
- You are welcome to bring material that you would like to use for the fix, if appropriate.
Who is it for?
The workshop is open to LBHF residents who want to learn practical repair skills and find out how they can reduce waste by keeping things in use for longer.
No previous repair experience is needed.
