Closing the Gap: A Free Family & Community Health Celebration in Toxteth
Join Improving Me and Torus Foundation for a free day of connection, women's health advice, cultural celebrations and support for families at FireFit, Liverpool.
About this event
Everyone is welcome!
Join us on Thursday 19 November 2026, from 10am to 2pm, at FireFit Youth and Community Hub in Toxteth for a free community celebration as part of Baby Week Cheshire and Merseyside 2026.
Organised by Improving Me in partnership with the Torus Foundation, this friendly, inclusive event brings together local families, community organisations and healthcare professionals to share information, celebrate our diverse communities and help everyone access the support they need.
This year's Baby Week theme is Closing the Gap — exploring how we can work together to reduce health inequalities and create a healthier, fairer future for women, babies and families.
Whether you're expecting a baby, raising young children, caring for family members or simply interested in finding out what's happening in your community, we'd love to see you!
What's happening on the day?
Come along, meet local organisations, ask questions and discover the support available in your neighbourhood.
You'll find:
- Health and wellbeing advice — Meet professionals offering information about maternal health, infant feeding, family wellbeing and local services.
- Community information stalls — Discover organisations supporting families across Toxteth and Liverpool.
- Cultural presentations — Celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Liverpool's communities.

Closing the Gap: Helping Everyone Feel Included
We know that finding the right support isn't always easy.
Language barriers, financial pressures, unfamiliarity with local services and social isolation can make it harder for families to access the information and care they need.
That's why we're bringing health professionals and community organisations together in one welcoming place.
This event is about connecting people, sharing knowledge and making sure everyone feels included, whatever their background or circumstances.
Discover ESOL Baby Steps
Did you know that Improving Me has supported the development of ESOL Baby Steps, a free English language learning programme designed especially for pregnant women and mothers with babies who speak little English?
The programme helps women build confidence in communicating with midwives and healthcare professionals, understand maternity services and connect with their communities.
Come along to find out more about English language learning opportunities and support available to local families.
Celebrating 10 Years of Improving Me
This event forms part of Baby Week Cheshire and Merseyside 2026, celebrating ten years of Improving Me's work to support women's health, maternity care and family wellbeing.
This year's theme, Closing the Gap, is about listening to communities, tackling inequalities and making sure that every family has the opportunity to thrive.
