About this Event
Get Ready for the 2026 Commonwealth Lecture!
The Liverpool Commonwealth Association, in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, is delighted to present the Liverpool Commonwealth Lecture 2026, delivered by Lord Paul Boateng.
This year's Lecture will explore the theme:
Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth
At a time of significant global economic, social and geopolitical change, the Commonwealth brings together 56 nations and a remarkable diversity of people, cultures, institutions and economies. The challenge, and opportunity, is to translate those connections into meaningful partnerships that create shared and sustainable prosperity.
Drawing upon his distinguished career in public service, international diplomacy and UK–Africa relations, Lord Paul Boateng will explore the role that stronger partnerships, investment and collaboration can play in shaping the Commonwealth's future.
The Lecture will consider how governments, businesses, universities, civil society and communities can work together to unlock opportunity, strengthen relationships and ensure that prosperity is both sustainable and inclusive.
Hosted in Liverpool, a city with longstanding international connections and one of the UK's most diverse communities, the event will also provide an important opportunity to consider the contribution that cities, regions and diaspora communities can make to contemporary Commonwealth relationships.
Following the keynote lecture, there will be an opportunity for audience discussion and Q&A with Lord Boateng, enabling participants to engage directly with the ideas and issues raised.
The Liverpool Commonwealth Lecture brings together Commonwealth communities, students and young people, academics, businesses, civic leaders, community organisations and members of the wider public for an evening of ideas, dialogue and connection.
