Hari Budha Magar - No Legs No Limits
Hari Budha Magar MBE is a The Guinness World Records ICON who made history in May 2023, as the world’s first double above-knee amputee to successfully summit Mount Everest.
But, he didn’t just stop there. After previously climbing Mt. Blanc (Europe) and Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa) in preparation for Everest, Hari went on to push his limits even further by taking on the highest peaks across all seven continents.
Demonstrating resilience, perseverance, innovation and an unshakable positive mindset, Hari has broken new boundaries in mountaineering, becoming the first double above-knee amputee in history to complete the 7 Summits.
Completing the 7 Summits challenge stands as a testament to the power of the human spirit when perceived limitations are removed. Hari hopes to motivate others to push beyond their own boundaries and inspire them to “climb their own mountains and conquer their dreams, whatever they may be.”

Serving for 15 years in the British Army’s legendary Gurkha regiment, Hari’s journey from injured veteran to record-breaking mountaineer is nothing short of extraordinary. Originally from Nepal, Hari served across five continents with the Royal Gurkha Rifles in the British Army, and in 2010, lost his legs in Afghanistan after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED).
Following this life changing event, he made it his mission to inspire and make awareness of disability globally and change perceptions. Hari made major headway in changing perceptions towards disability in 2018, after successfully lobbying officials in Nepal to overturn a ban that prevented people with a disability from climbing Everest. Today, he continues to campaign globally for greater inclusion and opportunity.
Through his incredible journey, Hari is continually raising awareness of disability and shining a light on how people with disability are perceived, and also how they perceive themselves.He doesn’t see barriers as obstacles, but as opportunities to demonstrate what is possible with the right mindset.
Redefining what is possible in mountaineering, Hari’s pioneering climbing techniques and prosthetic innovations have led him to a successful partnership with Ottobock, a global medical technology leader in advanced prosthetics, helping to make advancements so many others may benefit.
Hari has dedicated his life to making awareness of disability. His key objectives are to give hope and optimism to those who are struggling and help them to find the courage to take on challenges and fulfil their dreams.

Who are HExN?
Health Exchange Nepal (HExN) was founded in 2008 to support clinical education in Nepal and joined the Charity Commission the same year. HEnX's role expanded to assist with reconstruction after the 2015 earthquake and suppling essential medical equipment during the COVID‑19 pandemic.
HExN provides clinical and educational support across Nepal, working with Royal Colleges, hospitals, and universities in the UK and Nepali partners such as Society of Internal Medicine of Nepal (SIMON), the Society of Anaesthesiology, National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Dhulikhel Hospital, Chitwan Medical College, Manipal Medical College, the Nepal Paediatric Society, and Diabetes Nepal.
Each year, HExN delivers around five clinical meetings in Nepal with UK faculty, so far supporting:
- 37 National Clinical Meetings
- 58 local clinical education programmes
- 58 UK faculty visits
HEnX's work spans General Medicine, Diabetes, Surgery, Paediatrics, Life Support training, Anaesthesia, Maxillofacial surgery, and Obstetrics. They have established simulation centres in Janakpur, Dhulikhel, NAMS and Bhaktapur, and run the HExN Fellowship Programme for short‑term UK training.
