A GLORIOUS CHRISTMAS CAROL 2026FOR MORE THAN THREE DECADES, one Christmas tradition has followed South Sudanese congregation across borders and into new generations. This November, that tradition reaches a place it has never reached before—the United States.
The story began in 1994, when the late Rev. Marc Nikkel introduced the Christmas Carol among South Sudanese refugees at Kakuma Refugee Camp. From Kakuma, the celebration spread to South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Australia and neighboring countries. What began in a refugee camp grew into a cherished Christian tradition that has endured for more than 30 years, bringing people together in worship, strengthening faith, and drawing many back to Christ and the Church.
But what has made this celebration so meaningful for so many years?
The Christmas Carol does more than tell the story of Christ’s birth. It brings it to life. The Nativity is portrayed through drama, the Gospel is proclaimed through Christian poetry and hymns. And the celebration comes alive through worship, traditional dancing, and fellowship. Young people take a leading role, joined by children, adults, elders, clergy and families. Generations come together not simply to remember the birth of Jesus but to celebrate its meaning and proclaim the hope of Christ.
For many, the Christmas Carol carries treasured memories of church, family, and faith. For younger generations, especially those growing up far from the places where the tradition began, it offers something equally important: an opportunity to experience that heritage for themselves and carry its message forward.
Now, a new chapter is about to begin.
From November 13-15, 2026, Jol Wo Lieec Ministry USA will introduce this historic Christmas Carol tradition to the South Sudanese congregation in the United States for the first time, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
If you grew up with the Christmas Carol, come experience it again. If your children have only heard about it, bring them to see it for themselves. And if you have never experienced it before, come and discover why this celebration has remained alive for more than three decades.
Bring your family. Invite your friends. Come for an unforgettable time of worship, hymns, drama, poetry, fellowship, and celebration centered on the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
