About this event
Hosted by Not for Profit Organisation and Health Promotion Charity YOGAZEIT and in collaboration with our friends at Curtin University, this 30 hour certified Children's Yoga Teacher Training will equip you with the skills needed to teach safe, meaningful and engaging Yoga and Mindfulness to young people aged 3 - 12.
During this evidence-based, trauma-informed training you'll learn how to support children with Breathing techniques, Movement (Yoga), Games and Relaxation to empower mental, physical and social Health and Wellness. One breath at a time.
Meeting the Australian School Curriculum Standards and focusing on the needs of Australia's children, you'll be equipped with practices and techniques to teach Yoga and Mindfulness classes to help combat Anxiety and Stress, empower physical and mental strength and fitness, and build social cohesion by developing life skills. You're planting the seeds for a lifelong journey of health and wellness.

General Background
Learn about the Science of teaching age-appropriate Yoga and Mindfulness for growing bodies and minds. Explore Child Development for ages 3-12 to build customised yoga classes.
Children's Yoga Teaching Techniques, Training and Practice
Actively teach developmentally appropriate and safe Mindful Movement / Yoga while fostering the joy of play and learning through Yoga related games. You'll learn a variety of breathing techniques and understand how to teach a trauma sensitive class to support inclusion and accessibility for every body.
Teaching Methodology
Discover classroom management techniques and learn how to develop your own lesson plans for yoga at school, at home, or in the community.
Anatomy and Physiology
Cultivate an understanding of children's anatomy and physiology while exploring body system and the benefits of healthy movement patterns. Appreciate the positive impact of Yoga on the nervous system and brain development for growing bodies and minds.
Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers
Enhance your teaching skills by embodying the basic yoga precepts. Foster Mindfulness and Movement as a life skill (beyond the yoga mat) and learn about legal requirements and ethical guidelines when working with children in Australia.

PREREQUISITES
No prerequisites needed.
All you need to bring to participate in this training is a passion for Yoga and Health and Wellness for children. Most participants at our trainings are School Teachers/Educators, Health Professionals or Parents who are interested in learning more about mindfulness and movement and how they can support children at school, health settings, or at home.
If you're a certified Yoga Teacher (200hours+), this training will help you deepen your understanding of Children's Anatomy and Physiology and how to safely cue accessible yoga classes for kids. Plus, you'll learn how to make yoga fun and playful while planting the seeds for healthy habits on and off the mat.
CERTIFICATION
Certified Children's Yoga Educator/Teacher.
You'll graduate from this training as certified Children's Yoga Teacher with the skills and knowledge to bring Yoga and Mindfulness to children at school or in the community the very next day.
Yoga Teachers: You'll earn CEU's with Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia towards your RCYT.
School Teachers/Educators: This course will conclude with a certificate and proof of Professional Development meeting ACARA standards.
Health Professionals, Psychologists, Social Workers: Please check with your peak body and your PD requirements. You will get a certificate upon completion of this training, confirming your attendance and skills development.
Do I need to take another course to start teaching?
You don't need to do an extra training or additional level course to start teaching yoga to kids. We will discuss legal requirements and ethical guidelines for working with children here in Australia as part of this training too.
However - as with all things learning, we believe that the journey of yoga and mindfulness evolves with every practice, every class you teach, with every child you meet. If you're interested in learning more about Yoga and Mindfulness in general, different audiences (Teens Yoga, Family Yoga, ..) etc, we're happy to share our experience and knowledge with you and point you in a direction to further your growth and expand on your skillset.
ABOUT YOUR TRAINER
Sharnell is a registered yoga teacher, completing her yoga teacher training in Vinyasa Yoga at The Yoga Vine, Western Australia. She’s a certified teen, children’s and trauma-informed yoga teacher and has undertaken further training in Yin yoga. She is a qualified Remedial and Sports Therapist and worked with the North Melbourne Kangaroos AFL team in Melbourne for 9-seasons, before returning to her family in Perth. Sharnell is currently working as Yogazeit’s Indigenous Outreach Lead. Sharnell is passionate about mindful movement for underserved communities, and was a member of the Yogazeit pilot project in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, facilitating customised yoga and mindfulness activities for remote children.
When Sharnell isn’t guiding young people with mindfulness, she is coaching her daughter's AFL team at Rossmoyne Junior Football Club, attending live music gigs or going for a surf with her dog. Sharnell is honoured to be your facilitator for this course!
