About this Event

Southwark Directorate is delighted to invite colleagues, community partners, service users, carers and local organisations to join us for our Black History Month 2026 celebration, "Celebrating Southwark Superheroes." The event will bring people together to celebrate the contributions of Black communities, share lived experiences, strengthen community partnerships and promote anti-racist mental health services across Southwark.

The afternoon will combine networking, cultural activities, community engagement and learning opportunities, with contributions from people with lived experience, carers, community leaders, PCREF champions and specialist mental health services.

The programme will include:

  • Networking lunch and refreshments.
  • Welcome and opening remarks.
  • A lived experience and community panel discussion.
  • Facilitated group conversations exploring mental health, community partnership and anti-racism.
  • Information stalls featuring community organisations, specialist services and PCREF initiatives.
  • Cultural activities, music and performances.
  • A Black History Month quiz.
  • A cultural fashion showcase celebrating the diversity of Southwark communities.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet representatives from organisations including community and voluntary sector partners, learn about specialist mental health services and explore ways to strengthen collaboration and improve outcomes for Black communities.

Why attend?

This event provides an opportunity to:

  • Celebrate the strengths, achievements and contributions of Black communities.
  • Learn from the experiences of service users, carers, staff and community partners.
  • Discover support services and community resources available across Southwark.
  • Contribute ideas that will help shape future anti-racist and co-produced approaches to mental healthcare.
  • Build new connections with colleagues and local partners.

The event is being delivered through partnership working between Southwark services, community organisations and the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF), reflecting our shared commitment to inclusion, co-production and reducing inequalities in mental health care.
