Learn the fundamentals of green wood carving while turning a simple piece of wood into a useful butter spreader.This 90-minute mini workshop is a bite-sized introduction to the techniques we teach in our longer Spoon Carving classes. You’ll learn how to safely use a carving knife, work with the grain, shape green wood, and refine a small functional object by hand.
It’s a great first step for anyone curious about carving but not quite ready to commit to a full workshop. You’ll leave with a finished—or nearly finished—butter spreader, some basic knife skills, and a much better understanding of how satisfying it is to make something useful from a piece of wood.
