Free your inner superhero (or villain…!) in this unique cosplay mask workshop. Led by master cosplayer and costume maker Dale Abbott-Smith, the workshop will focus on building a cosplay mask from scratch.
Participants will choose their character of choice from the list of options, and build their mask over three intensive evening workshops. This will include drafting, cutting and assembling a piece in professional cosplay-grade EVA foam, carving and building details, measuring, cutting and installing lenses, and painting and finishing the final product.
All materials, instruction and tool use are provided, as well as project storage for the duration of the workshop.

About the instructor
Dale Abbott-Smith, also known as Costumes by KTDE Designs, has been passionately cosplaying since 2017. He quickly took his craft to new heights. Starting with minor builds like masks and props, Dale’s skills have grown to include large, intricate creations that truly showcase the talent that comes from hard work and dedication to the craft. His deep love for the Marvel universe, which has been a part of his life since childhood, serves as the inspiration behind most of his builds.
Between 2021 and 2025, Dale competed in several prestigious competitions, including the Cosplay Craftsmanship Cup and the Cosplay Grand Prix, both held at Calgary and Edmonton Expo, Canada’s two largest conventions in the Midwest. His exceptional work on commissioned projects has also earned top honors in competitions, highlighting his versatility.
Dale is all about creating efficient, innovative builds by cleverly utilizing materials to maximize impact, especially when working within a budget. Whether you’re just starting your cosplay journey, have some experience, or are a seasoned pro, Dale loves sharing his passion. He’s eager to guide you through the process of creating a mask from start to finish, offering valuable tips along the way.
