MARIANA OLAECHEA
Mariana is a professional flamenco and hip-hop dancer, as well as the founder and charismatic leader of the group Bravata.
Bravata is a dance concept, idea of Mariana, dance group and a school (set up in Peru Lima in 2013) which provides a unique, experimental dance fusion combining a flamenco technique with other contemporary styles, which is often danced to not flamenco music, but among others for Latin songs, pop hits and more.
This is what Mariana writes about Bravata: “Bravata is flamenco, it’s fusion, it’s music, it’s movement, it’s expression, it’s art. Bravata means to dare, it is both destruction and reconstruction. Bravata is a woman, it is strength, it is emotions, it is modernity, it is freedom.”
She studied flamenco from a very young age and was for many years part of the Compañía Alma Gitana.
Since 2008 she has participated in the Peruvian flamenco scene as a solo dancer on different stages and shows, both traditional flamenco and fusion flamenco. She was a teacher and choreographer at the Vania Masías D1 Dance School in Lima. In 2009 she complemented her artistic and creative activity by committing herself to teaching, creating her own teaching center, Escuela Flamenco y Fusion. Since then it has been dedicated to establishing and disseminating the art of flamenco in Peru. (Fortunately for us, now she is living in Madrid, where she is teaching and also traveling across Europe conducting workshops!)
The concept of Bravata Dance Crew was created in 2013 - forming the group with several professional dancers from the Lima scene, and with whom they carried out a new proposal: to use their own flamenco artistic resources to dance different musical styles. The formation become of one of the most popular dance groups in Lima and known worldwide.
From that time they regularly teach classes and workshops in this new style, creating choreographies that are reflected in high-quality dance videos and worldwide recognition, with the video for “Malamente” reaching 2.6 million views on YouTube.
