Celebrate the colors of autumn by learning how to draw one of the season’s most striking natural elements: Bittersweet, the climbing vine known for its vibrant red and orange berries. In this hands-on botanical drawing workshop, you’ll explore the foundational techniques that give botanical art its signature depth and realism. Students will begin by toning with graphite pencils, using simple shapes and gradual shading to build structure and form. Once the drawing is established, you’ll layer color over your graphite work to bring your Bittersweet branch to life—capturing the warmth, contrast, and texture that make this plant a favorite in fall décor.
This process is approachable for beginners and rewarding for experienced artists, offering a calm, focused way to observe nature and translate it beautifully onto the page. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created a finished Bittersweet Branch botanical study full of seasonal charm. Supplies are not included in the cost of the workshop. A PDF copy of the supply list can be found in the workshop description.
NOTE: For all administrative questions—such as registration issues, cancellations, or workshop attendance—please contact Arlene’s directly. Instructors are not responsible for handling these matters. You can reach us at [email protected] or call during store hours at (518) 482-8881.
Our courses are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
