BOP 26 Artist Talk \/ Amelia Abraham and Ajamu X Journalist and author Amelia Abraham is joined by photographer Dr Ajamu X for a conversation on Amelia’s new photobook, Sex, Clubs, Dissent: Visualising Queer Nightlife, published by MACK, 2026.
This work collects over 200 photographs, accompanied by a series of essays, to chart an expansive visual history of queer nightlife and its relationship with image-making. Edited by Amelia, Sex, Clubs, Dissent explores how image-making has fostered, and at times jeopardised, the formation of queer practices, subcultures, and forms of resistance. Amelia and Ajamu will discuss this new publication, touching on how photography intersects with pleasure, politics, and protest, sharing many images from the project.
The book features work by Lola Flash, Reynaldo Rivera, Del Lagrace Volcano, Wolfgang Tillmans, Roxy Lee, Lyle Ashton Harris, Elegance Bratton, Phyllis Christopher, Bruce LaBruce, Chloe Sherman, Amos Mac, Ajamu X and many more.
The talk will be followed by questions from the floor and a book signing.
