About Magaret McDonald

Margaret McDonald is a Scottish novelist and poet based in Glasgow. She has been published in a range of literary magazines, including Breath and Shadow, Bandit Fiction, Bubble Lit, In Parentheses and The Manifest Station. After shielding for a year, Margaret worked for the NHS while completing her Masters in English Literature at the University of Glasgow with Distinction. She also holds a First-Class BA (Hons) in Creative Writing with English Literature from Strathclyde University.

Her debut novel Glasgow Boys was published by Faber & Faber in May 2024 and has been widely recognised for its powerful, authentic storytelling. In 2025 Margaret became the youngest ever recipient of the prestigious Carnegie Medal for Writing, honoured for Glasgow Boys in a year that saw strong acclaim from critics and young readers alike.

Margaret’s work often explores identity, community and the nuances of everyday life. She writes with honesty and emotional clarity, earning attention from readers and literary circles across the UK.

About Bookface

Created in 2020 by avid reader Heather Suttie, Bookface is a 5,000+ strong online reading community and live event series that’s hosted 70+ sold-out events across Scotland. Bookface Sip & Swaps are a mix of relaxed author chats, and bookish good vibes.
