On November 18, join Dr. Shamika Shabnam for a discussion of her new book, Remembering the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War: History, Memory, and Gender (Routledge, 2026), in discussion with UBC Ph.D. candidate Parboti Roy. Drawing on archival, testimonial, and literary materials, she examines how the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War has been remembered, narrated, and contested, with particular attention to the relationship between personal memory, cultural memory, national history, trauma, and the gendered and embodied experiences of war.
