About this Event
This roundtable will discuss the new book, , published by Casa Carlini in May 2026. This book is the result of an innovative collaboration between Dr Francesca Lessa (UCL), who previously authored the award-winning book (Yale University Press, 2022), and Uruguayan-Argentine artist Sebastián Santana. This illustrated book combines short texts with powerful and haunting black and white illustrations: it thus combines academic research with the tools of the arts to encourage students, the younger generations, and the broader public to engage with the difficult topics of the crimes against humanity committed during South America's Operation Condor. The book was originally published in Spanish in Uruguay in 2023, and subsequently in Chile and Argentina in 2025, prior to this 2026 English translation.
The roundtable brings together experts on Operation Condor and Latin America to reflect on the book's contributions, innovative format, and potential. This hybrid event is jointly organised and co-sponsored with the Latin American Studies Association's Recent History and Memory Section.
The book (available as paperback, hardback, and e-book) can be purchased from this website.
